Flexible Spending Open Enrollment Wednesday, November 18th-Wednesday, December 16th Enrollment at www.smartben.com |
Flexible Spending Open Enrollment for the 2010 calender year begins Wednesday, November 18th and runs until December 16th. A Flexible Spending Account provides a way to pay for Medical expenses (ie medical/dental co-pays and deductibles, prescriptions) and Dependent Care expenses (ie childcare) on a pretax basis. Elections will be made through the District's online benefits enrollment system, SmartBen. Instructions can be found below.
**New option for 2010** If you elect the Medical Flexible Spending Account, you may also elect to receive a Prepaid Benefits Card. The value of your Medical election is stored on the Prepaid Benefits Card and at the point of sale, eligible purchases will be deducted automatically from your account for immediate payment. Using the Prepaid Benefits Card eliminates most out-of-pocket expenditures and paperwork (completing claim forms) as well as the need to wait for reimbursement checks. NOTE: There is an $18 annual fee for the card that will be deducted out of your Medical Flexible Spending Account in January. The fee is charged by the bank issuing the Prepaid Benefits Card; the District does not receive any portion of the fee.
