Would you love to help children grow their reading or math skills and succeed in school? If your answer is yes, you can be trained to serve as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps at Cowern Elementary. Whether you want to explore a career in education, re-enter the workforce, or give back to your community, you can be a child’s hero as a tutor. Last year, Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps provided direct services to more than 35,000 children in more than 900 sites across the state.

As a Literacy Tutor, you’ll use research-proven strategies to help students become proficient, confident readers. As a Math Tutor, you’ll help struggling 4th-8th grade students gain the core math skills they need to prepare for high school graduation and college enrollment. There are openings for part-time and full-time tutors, and tutors serve most of their hours during the school day.

Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents, and retirees. With extensive training, support from onsite coaches, and evidence-based strategies, tutors are well-equipped to change lives. Tutors may earn a living allowance, education award, and federal student loan forbearance, and will have the chance to make a real difference in the life of a child.

To learn how you can join the team of Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps tutors and apply online at MinnesotaReadingCorps.org or MinnesotaMathCorps.org.

Welcome

Welcome to Cowern Elementary!

It's not the building that makes a school great, it’s the people that make a school great!  Our students, staff, and community know first hand that Cowern Elementary is a great school.  Cowern Elementary opened its doors for the first time back in 1952. Our school has provided strong academics and core values to thousands of students over the years.  We continue with this strong educational legacy as we head into our 62ndyear.  Our mission is that every student, without exception, will gain the foundational skills necessary to succeed beyond elementary school.  We are a warm and welcoming school community committed to embracing children and preparing them for the future!
