Cowern Receives Commitment to Excellence Award

Each year PeaceMaker Minnesota recognizes schools for their leadership in the prevention of bullying.  Cowern Elementary was one of five schools presented with this award on Sunday, September 20th at the Minnesota Twins game.  The Commitment to Excellence Award honors schools that achieved the greatest improvement in their student anti-bullying survey results.  Cowern improved their survey results on 7 out of 10 indicators.

Cowern Elementary has been an International Peace Site since 2008.  During this time all students have participated in cross-grade monthly peace groups.  These groups focus on a lesson which helps them practice how to be peace keepers at school, at home, and in the community.  Many of the lessons also incorporate anti-bullying skills.  As a culmination of these lessons, Cowern has an end of the year Peace Walk event.  This event consists of community building activities which each peace group participates in throughout the day.  Families and community members are always invited and encouraged to participate in this meaningful event.

Our mission at Cowern is to help our students create a safer environment, free from bullying and harassment, and to help children learn positive relational skills like empathy, respect and how to resolve conflict peacefully.

Welcome

Welcome to Cowern Elementary!

It's not the building that makes a school great, it’s the people that make a school great!  Our students, staff, and community know first hand that Cowern Elementary is a great school.  Cowern Elementary opened its doors for the first time back in 1952. Our school has provided strong academics and core values to thousands of students over the years.  We continue with this strong educational legacy as we head into our 62ndyear.  Our mission is that every student, without exception, will gain the foundational skills necessary to succeed beyond elementary school.  We are a warm and welcoming school community committed to embracing children and preparing them for the future!
