This department works with teachers and parents to plan, articulate and implement curriculum for students in grades K-12. Curriculum development is a continual process with several stages to it:

Stage 1 – Teachers research instructional and curricular best practices for their subject and grade level
Stage 2 – Teachers design surveys or focus groups to solicit information from students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members about current practices in curriculum and instruction
Stage 3 – Using all of the information collected in Stages 1 & 2, teachers modify, adapt or create curriculum for their subject and grade level
Stage 4 – Teachers purchase new materials and equipment that allows them to implement the new curriculum
Stage 5 – Teachers implement the new curriculum and materials
Stage 6 – Teachers determine whether the curriculum, materials and instructional practices are ensuring student learning
Stage 7 – Staff development opportunities are provided for learning new curriculum, use of materials, or instructional practices to ensure student learning
Stage 8 – Teachers continue to monitor their curriculum, use of materials, and instructional practices to ensure student learning
Various K – 12 subject areas (e.g. Math, Language Arts) are at different stages each year with each subject area completing the process in six to eight years.
This department works with the Curriculum Coordinating Council and with the Citizens Advisory Committee on Curriculum. The work of these committees is submitted for approval to the District 622 School Board.
