Thank you for visiting The Next Step Transition Program website. The purpose of our program is to successfully transition students from school life to adulthood. All of our students have different, individualized goals. This requires the teachers, and the curriculum, to be flexible so we can meet the needs of all students. The three main areas of focus in transition are: Employment Development, Independent Living and Post-Secondary Education. All of the courses and experiences are based on “real life” learning. The goal is for students to gain skills that will be relevant, useful and meaningful in their future.
We believe that ALL students can succeed. Our staff is truly invested in the students who attend Next Step. We create strong relationships with each student and help provide the instruction, experiences, guidance and support to move them onto the “next step” in their lives. The partnerships created between staff and students allow the students to be active participants in their education.
We also believe it is important that Next Step students gain a better understanding of themselves. We want students to become as independent as possible. We want our students to feel confident. We want our students to have the skills necessary to advocate and effectively communicate and relate to others. This stage in their life is full of challenges and changes. It is our privilege to be part of the journey!
