Assessment and Research
Assessment and Research provides the following services to schools and their students:
- coordination of district, state and national assessments
- data analysis and reporting
- student performance data systems
- support for classroom, common and formative assessment
- facilitation of data-driven decision making and research school improvement planning
District 622 makes strong gains on Science MCA-II MCA-II science results show that District 622’s made across-the-board gains in science achievement, with the strongest improvement at fifth grade and high school. Overall, the district increased its science proficiency rate (the percent of students meeting or exceeding standards) from 34% in 2008 to 44% in 2009.
Grade 5 The district outgained the state 8.7% to 5.9%, but remains 4 points behind the state’s proficiency rate. Eight of our nine K-5 schools made at least some gain. Castle led district-wide improvement at all levels with a gain of 22.6%, followed by Carver with 20.3%. Carver continues to have the highest science proficiency rate of any school in the district at any level.
Grade 8 MN made moderate gains, and the district only slight gains with mixed results at the schools. John Glenn made a strong 6.7% gain in proficiency.
High School District 622 almost tripled the state gains at the high school level with a 17.7% increase, and moved out ahead of state-wide proficiency rates. Gains were 21% at Tartan, 13.9% at North and 7.1% at the ALC.

BST (Basic Skills Test) Testing When? * Tuesday July 21: Writing * Wednesday July 22: Math * Thursday July 23: Reading * Friday July 24: Make up for all three tests Testing starts at 8:30. Students should check in by 8:00.
Where? All testing takes place at the District Education Center, 2520 E 12th Ave, North St Paul (across the parking lot from North)
What should I bring? * Photo Identification * No 2 pencils * Calculator (for Math)
Who needs to take the test? Students who first entered 8th grade during or before the 2004-2005 school year (most of 2009 seniors) need to pass the BST in Writing, Math and Reading to earn a MN high school diploma. This retake opportunity is for students in this group who have not yet passed one or more of these tests. Notices were sent in June to students still needing to retake one or more of their BSTs.
