Welcome to District 622

A community collaborative dedicated to educating and empowering all learners to excel in our changing world.

The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District serves more than 11,100 students in 16 school buildings. Besides the district's three namesake communities, District 622 serves the towns of Landfall, Pine Springs and portions of Lake Elmo and Woodbury.

Our strong curriculum is the district's foundation. Each year, a portion of our curriculum is reviewed by district staff and education experts from around the state. This process helps reaffirm what the district is doing well and outlines a process for continued improvement. As we study current trends and research, we maintain a strong focus on basic fundamental skills. A solid strength in the district is its careful monitoring and focus on student performance in writing. Standard achievement test results show that District 622 students consistently perform higher than the national average.

Additional evidence of excellence is seen each year as students from across the district receive National Merit Scholarship recognition, while younger students win various academic team awards. Extracurricular activities, in academics and athletics, help enrich each student's experience.

In addition to the regular K-12 curriculum, District 622 offers a variety of enrollment options, comprehensive vocational opportunities, an alternative school for those who are not successful in the regular classroom setting, and a full range of Early Childhood Family Education programs. The district also supports an active senior citizens' program, and offers dozens of enrichment and learning courses through Community Education.

Additional highlights:

  • The district is a partner in Valley Crossing Community School, the Harambee Community Cultures/Environmental Science School and Crosswinds, an arts and science middle school, all with year-around alternate schedule options. Parents may choose a school as space permits.
  • All district schools are accredited by the NCA.
  • District 622 is committed to helping all students reach their fullest potential. Gifted and talented students are identified through several approaches, among them parental input, teacher referral and standardized test scores. The high schools offer more than 10 advanced placement courses, including economics, government, history and math.
  • All elementary schools are served by specialists in high potential, math, music, physical education, and special education.
  • More than 50 percent of the teaching staff have their masters' degree.
  • Nearly 40 percent of the teaching staff have 10 years experience or less; while almost 50 percent have more than 20 years' experience.
