    Wolf Ridge Environmental Center

Cowern 5th Graders get an opportunity to participate in an environmental learning experience in the great North woods.  The students get to travel on a coach bus up north to Wolf Ridge, spend 3 days and 2 nights discovering ways of learning that last a lifetime.

Wolf Ridge was founded in 1971 and is located on a ridge overlooking Lake Superior.  The 2000 acre campus features creeks, two lakes, two high peaks, 18-miles of trail and a mixed forest of maple, birch, and spruce. Wildlife is abundant and includes pine marten, eagles, moose, black bear, whitetail deer, fox, wolves, beaver, peregrine falcons and loons. Facilities include three classroom buildings, two dormitories, a dining hall, a raptor aviary, a library, two auditoriums, two rock-climbing walls, two outdoor ropes courses, and an administration building.

Have you ever felt the excitement of a chickadee perching on your head? Taken a step back in time as you paddle a voyageur canoe, singing voyageur songs at the top of your lungs? Jumped off the zip-line of a high ropes course as your friends and family cheer you on? Gazed in awe at a wolf track between your snowshoes? These are some of the things the students may experience while attending classes at Wolf Ridge.
