• Reading Rocks!
    • Welcome to 7th and 8th grade Language Arts for the 20-21 school year!  Amy Keyes and I (Lauren Lindgren) look forward to co-teaching this year to help your child reach their highest potential as a reader and writer.  We love our job, working together and getting to know your child as a person, reader, and writer.  We know it's going to be a year filled with lots of learning, growth, and fun!
      Our primary goal in language arts is to build strong strategies that will catalyze the complex work your students do as lifelong readers and writers.  Our hope is that they leave our classrooms as readers who are not only prepared to face the critical reading realities of the world around them, but also as individuals with a love and passion of reading.
      The Reader's Workshop model closely aligns to what students are accustomed to from the elementary literacy block.  It also allows teachers the opportunity to tailor the instruction more individually and appropriately for each student in the class.  Most importantly, more class time is available for students to read.  Research suggests that the amount of reading time children do in school is related to gains in reading achievement.  Independent reading is also a major source of vocabulary growth and reading fluency.
      Class Structures:
      * Listen to and respond to good literature
      * Participate in individual and small-group reading and writing instruction
      * Read individually or in small groups
      * Select material at the appropriate level ('just right' books)
      * Participate in lessons using many reading and writing strategies
      * Focus on comprehension
      * Integrate reading and writing activities
      It's going to be a great year and we cannot wait to start this journey with all of you!
