• Phase II

UPDATE: The Bond referendum passed on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Visit the Construction Plans & Updates section for a proposed timeline and other information.

Our vision is for safe, up-to-date and healthy learning environments for all District 622 students that make them Ready for Tomorrow.

Over the past two years, we have been assessing the age, efficiency and learning environments in our schools. We have engaged our staff, parents and community members in this process, asking for their ideas and input as we review various options.

    What we’ve learned:

    • Most of our buildings are over 50 years old; most are not designed for today’s learning environment.
    • Teachers are using closets and other inappropriate spaces for small group work and staff offices.
    • Many buildings have traffic congestion, safety, and security concerns.
    • Many buildings have roofs, parking lots, fixtures, and equipment in need of updates and repair.
    • The cost to fix all our buildings is more expensive than the cost to build some new, consolidate and update the remaining buildings.
    • Our school locations and boundaries do not align with our student populations, causing overcrowding and segregation in some areas.

Phase I of our facilities updates began in 2018, with additions and renovations to Castle and Richardson elementary schools. We were able to do this work using existing funds.

Looking ahead, our facilities review also identified many other needs across the district beyond what is being addressed in Phase I.

The Phase II proposals are designed to update facilities across the district, touching every building in some way. Key components of the Phase II proposals:

    • Add secure entrances to all schools
    • Provide all schools with modern furniture and flexible classroom spaces for independent, small and large group learning
    • Renovate and/or expand some schools
