  • Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of Skyview Sixth-Grade SAIL Students:

Welcome to a new year of learning and growing! I am the Advanced Academics Coordinator at Skyview.  I also work with Young Scholars’ students and coordinate the AVID program. My role is to advocate for your children, conduct placements for advanced classes, arrange enrichments, and address the social-emotional needs of our high-ability learners.

The structure of Middle School SAIL is necessarily different from the elementary program. We serve the needs of our gifted sixth graders through advanced courses and enrichment activities. Most SAIL students have been placed in one or more accelerated classes to challenge them in their areas of strength.

In addition, SAIL sixth graders will be pulled out of classes periodically for enrichment. Pull outs are designed to challenge students through problem-solving activities, interactive learning, and creative challenges.  Pull outs also provide students an opportunity to engage with other high-ability learners.

In addition, sixth graders are encouraged to participate in enrichment activities scheduled throughout the year. Enclosed is a permission slip for our new Urban Debate League Team. Also attached is information about our Knowledge Bowl program and Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl.

During morning advisory first trimester, I hope to meet with small groups of SAIL students to make connections and check in on how they’re settling into middle school. I can also support your student with academic classes if he or she is experiencing difficulty in any way. Please reach out to me if you require advocacy.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns regarding your child’s learning program.
