Young Scholars Breakout

YOUNG SCHOLARS PARENT LETTER

  • Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

    Welcome to a new year of learning and growing! I am the Young Scholars teacher at Skyview.  I also work with SAIL students and coordinate the AVID program. My role is to advocate for your children, conduct placements for advanced classes, arrange enrichments, and address the social-emotional needs of our high-ability learners.

    Your child was identified as a Young Scholars student in elementary school and has been selected to participate in the middle school YS program based on teacher recommendation. As you know, the goal of Young Scholars is to nurture high academic potential at an early age so that students will be prepared to engage in challenging subject matter and rigorous courses in middle school and beyond!

    We serve the needs of our Young Scholars’ sixth graders through advanced courses and enrichment activities. In middle school, we are not able to do weekly pullouts as was done in the elementary program. Pullouts happen a few times a trimester and are designed to challenge students through problem-solving activities, interactive learning, and creative challenges. Pullouts also provide students with an opportunity to engage with other high-ability learners.

    I can also support your student with academic classes if he or she is experiencing difficulty in any way. Please reach out to me if you require advocacy.

    Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns regarding your child’s learning program.

    Sincerely,

    Kathryn Marget (she/her)
