Make an impact on Cowern Elementary School in 2017-18 as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps!

Would you love to help children grow their reading or math skills and succeed in school? If your answer is yes, you can serve as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps at Cowern!

As a Literacy Tutor or Math Enrichment Tutor, you’ll use research-proven strategies to help Cowern students gain the reading or math skills they need to thrive in school and in life.
Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents, and retirees. With extensive training, support from onsite coaches, and evidence-based strategies, Reading Corps and Math Corps tutors are well-equipped to change lives.  Additionally, Reading Corps and Math Corps tutors may earn a living allowance, education award, and federal student loan forbearance for their service. Last year, Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps provided direct services to more than 30,000 children in more than 700 sites across the state.

What is Cub Club??
Each month grade level teachers nominate two students per grade who are showing both behavior and academic skills (either growth in an area or consistent commitment to meeting Cowern expectations - be safe, be responsible, be respectful). Twelve students then have lunch with the principal (Big Daddy’s pizza and a juice box), play games, and are honored for doing their best!

Welcome to Cowern Elementary!

It's not the building that makes a school great, it’s the people that make a school great!  Our students, staff, and community know first hand that Cowern Elementary is a great school.  Cowern Elementary opened its doors for the first time back in 1952. Our school has provided strong academics and core values to thousands of students over the years.  We continue with this strong educational legacy as we head into our 62ndyear.  Our mission is that every student, without exception, will gain the foundational skills necessary to succeed beyond elementary school.  We are a warm and welcoming school community committed to embracing children and preparing them for the future!
