• Uprising

Uprising is an extracurricular service group of Tartan High School students dedicated to helping others. We include freshmen, sophomore, junior, and seniors who are interested in volunteering in our community. We have volunteered with groups like Feed My Starving Children & the Ronald McDonald House, served holiday meals at our local women’s shelters, and have even raked leaves for neighborhood families in the Fall.

Some of us commit to only two or three projects per year. Most of us commit to the Book Buddy Program at Webster Elementary School in North St. Paul where we read books, do an art or play activity, and have a snack with our Webster “buddy” twice a month from 3-5 p.m. Because of generous sponsors such as the North St. Paul Rotary Club, the 622 Foundation, as well as private donations, Uprising is able to purchase books so that each time we go to Webster each of the 45 students have a new book to take home to build and add to their home library. We get to practice our reading aloud as well as listen to our buddy read aloud.

Tartan students in Uprising say it is a great way to make new friends and meet other students. Uprising is also fun for those who don’t have younger brothers and sisters and want to have a chance to help out and be around elementary school kids. Not only do Tartan students get a chance to teach others to read, but they also teach kids about “life."

We also ring bells at local malls and help with Second Harvest Heartland.

Please consider joining our group. We will be happy to welcome you. You’ll be glad you join us in helping others in our community.
