General Information/FAQ
Are you interested in joining the Tartan Girl’s Swim Team?
Who Can Join?
All girls 9th grade through 12th grade can participate. In addition, 7th and 8th graders at Skyview and Maplewood Middle Schools can participate on the team. The team consists of both varsity and junior varsity teams which practice and compete together. We welcome anyone who wants to work hard and learn to swim competitively. Preferably, new swimmers should know, at least, competitive freestyle and backstroke before joining the team. Swimming is a great sport – one that you can do for the rest of your life. How Do I Join?
Please visit the Tartan Athletic Office page for all registration requirements and forms. At the top of this page, click on "Athletics" then select "Athletics Office."What Equipment do I Need to Participate?
Swimmers will need to have a one-piece swimsuit. Please purchase your suit prior to the first day of practice. Practice suits made of polyester tend to last longer. They are more expensive but well worth the cost as other swimsuits tend to wear out from the chlorine a little bit faster. As a note, suits tend to loosen up from use over time. You want the suit to be tight when purchased. Elsmore Aquatics, (952) 997-6255, sells suits at a reduced cost. A team suit for the competition will be purchased at the beginning of the season. Swimmers should also bring a water bottle, a pair of goggles, a swim cap, tennis shoes and work-out clothes to practice each day. What can I do to Prepare for the Swim Season?
Swim on your own (just being in the water and swimming some laps can be really helpful for new swimmers to prepare for the season) or join a club swim team. Information on swim teams in your area can be found at http://www.mnswim.org/ or under the "Helpful Links" found on the left side of this page. At the very least, try to do some form of active exercise each day!Where do we Practice?
Practice is at Skyview Community School from 3-5:45 p.m. each afternoon after school.Other Activities:
In the past, the swim team has done bagged groceries to earn money for the team. Earnings from fundraisers may be used for the team banquet at the end of the season or for equipment needed for the team. The team also plans multiple social events throughout the year like team bonfires, after meet dinners and ice cream socials, and a team overnight travel swim meet! The team has three special nights during the season: a family potluck/picnic to welcome new families and for coaches to open discussion for the season, a potluck dinner for senior night and another parents' night, and an end of the year banquet and recognition night.
When are the Swim Meets?
Please click on the Schedule/Results tab on the left side of your screen to view our schedule. The swim season generally runs from mid-August until mid-November for varsity swimmers. For junior varsity, the swim season runs from mid-August until the end of October. Meets are generally held on Tuesdays and Thursdays around 6 p.m. along with a couple of Saturday afternoon invitational meets.Where can I get more information?
