• General Information/FAQ

Are you interested in joining the Tartan Boy's Swim Team?

    Who Can Join?
All boys 9th grade through 12th grade can participate. In addition, 7th and 8th graders at Skyview and Maplewood Middle Schools can participate on the team. The team consists of both varsity and junior varsity teams which practice and compete together.  We welcome anyone who wants to work hard and learn to swim competitively.  We can teach you everything you need to know, there are no minimum requirements and everyone should feel comfortable and welcome to join us! Swimming is a great sport – one that you can do for the rest of your life.

    How Do I Join?
To participate, a student must have a physical on record at Tartan High School.  Physicals are good for two years.  A physical form can be obtained on the Tartan Athletic Office website (under the "Athletics" tab, select "Athletic Office") or outside the Tartan Activities Office.  Other forms (also found on the main Tartan web-site) and fees must also be completed by parents and athletes.  These forms must be turned into the Tartan Activities Office prior to the first day of practice.

What Equipment do I Need to Participate?
Swimmers will need to have a training suit for practices. Please purchase your suit prior to the first day of practice. Practice suits made of polyester tend to last longer. They are more expensive, but well worth the cost as other swim suits tend to wear out from the chlorine a little bit faster. Elsmore Aquatics, (952) 997-6255, sells suits at a reduced cost. A team suit for competition will be purchased at the beginning of the season. Swimmers should also bring a water bottle, a pair of goggles, a swim cap, tennis shoes and work-out clothes to practice each day.

What can I do to Prepare for the Swim Season?
Swim on your own (just being in the water and swimming some laps can be really helpful for new swimmers to prepare for the season) or join a club swim team.  Information on swim teams in your area can be found at http://www.mnswim.org/. At the very least, try to do some form of active exercise each day!

    Where do we Practice?
Practice is at Skyview Community School from 3:10-5:40 p.m. each afternoon after school.

    When are the Swim Meets?
Please click on the Schedule/Results tab on the left side of your screen to view our schedule. The swim season generally runs from late-November until early-March for varsity swimmers.  Meets are generally held on Tuesdays and Thursdays around 6 p.m. along with a couple of Saturday afternoon invitational meets.
