Welcome Coach Damian Johnson
Coach Johnson has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Eden Prairie High School. During those seasons, EPHS reached the section finals, winning in 2015-16 and losing 2016-17. Coach Johnson played for the University of Minnesota from 2006-2010. During his time as a Gopher, Johnson finished his career second on the Gophers' all-time steals list with 195 and third on the Gophers' all-time blocks list with 191. As a junior Johnson was part of the 2008-09 Big Ten first team All-Defense & Finished in the top 3 in the Big Ten in Blocks & Steals in 2008-09 & 209-10. Johnson had 64 steals as a senior tied him for fifth place on the Gophers' single-season list and blocked 67 blocks, seventh all time. The Gophers played in three straight post seasons in Johnson's final three seasons. Following his career as Gopher, Johnson played five seasons professionally. He spent a season in Japan, where he received Asia-Basket Honorable Mention All BJ League & First Team all Defense Team. Following his season in Japan, Coach Johnson played a key role in the Springfield Armor, NBA Development, finishing regular season Eastern Conference Champs. Coach Johnson finished his final three seasons as a player in Australia. His first two seasons were with Mount Gambier Pioneers, where he helped the team win back to back championships and win their first championship since 2003. In 2015, Johnson earned the SEABL Defensive Player of the Year award, All SEABL First Team and was the Finals MVP. In Johnson's final season professionally, he joined the Bendigo Braves. He helped the Braves win their first championship since 2005 and earned his 2nd straight SEABL Defensive Player of the Year award and All SEABL First Team.
He is married to his beautiful wife Tasha and has three lovely children, son Jrue, and daughters Li'Elle and Da'Miah.
