Classroom Assessments in Content Areas (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health)
There are ongoing classroom-based assessments that happen in each classroom.  Teachers use the results for adjusting their curriculum and instruction in order to meet the needs of students in their classrooms.  These are the most common types of assessments that teachers will use for gaining data on students to meet their needs in the classroom.
    Interim Assessments in Specific Areas
Benchmark Assessment System (BAS) is administered three times each school year.  The BAS gives teachers information on the level and areas of reading that your child is able to perform or will need support in.  The BAS is administered during the months of September, February, and May. The actual testing dates are set at the beginning of each school year.
Fastbridge Learning (FBL) is administered three times each school year.  FBL is used to measure competency in reading and math.  FBL is also used for progress monitoring of students who show the need for progress monitoring (every two weeks). The FBL is administered during the months of September, January, and May.
District Common Assessments (DCA) are administered by classroom three times each school year.  The DCAs provide results that help the district adjust curriculum and make decisions towards further professional learning of teachers.  The DCAs also provide each classroom teacher with results that inform the level of student learning following teaching of units.
    State Standardized Tests
The WIDA ACCESS is administered once a year for all students who are limited English proficient.  The ACCESS measures reading, writing, speaking, and listening of the English language.  ACCESS is administered in February and March.
The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) are administered once a year for grades 3, 4, and 5.  Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 take the MCA Reading and MCA Math tests.  Students in grade 5 also take the MCA Science test.  The MCAs provide results that inform us of our overall system for instruction and support.  The MCAs are administered in April and May.
