I am so excited to be teaching at Cowern Elementary School. This is my second year at Cowern. I love teaching and am excited to get to know you and your student as the year progresses.
I grew up on a farm in North Dakota and am the oldest of 10 children. Throughout my entire life, I yearned to teach and embrace diversity. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and minors in psychology and voice from Dickinson State University in Dickinson, ND. I have a Masters in Education and Special Education with a learning disabilities emphasis from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND.
I have been teaching for 26 years—elementary education and in special education in just about every area—learning disabled, deaf/hard of hearing, emotional and behavior disordered, ASD, FAN, physically impaired, and other health impaired (ex. ADHD). Prior to Cowern, I taught at Tartan High School for many years as a special education teacher and was also the special education department chair. I also taught for two years at John Glenn Middle School prior to Tartan High School. I do know American Sign Language.
I have two daughters, ages 24 and 21. I am also a grandmother as my youngest had a baby girl July 28, 2018 and my oldest had a baby boy on August 30, 2018. I enjoy music, camping, riding my Harley Davidson motorcycle, hiking, gardening, cooking, canning, biking, swimming, singing karaoke, baking/cooking, reading, basketball, working out, and running 5ks. I LOVE teaching and being a grandmother!
If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to talk, please do not hesitate to call or email me at any time. Please remember that my door is always open if you have any concerns or questions.
I look forward to meeting you and working with your child and with you!
