Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
About AVID
AVID is an acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a nonprofit that changes lives by helping schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach. We train 85,000 educators annually to close the opportunity gap, so they can prepare all students for college, careers, and life.
The AVID a college-readiness system is designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges. Although AVID serves all students, it focuses on the least served students in the academic middle. The formula is simple - raise expectations of students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge.
Today, AVID has been adopted by more than 7,500 schools in the United States and serves approximately TWO MILLION students, grades 4-12. Schools and districts have taken methodologies and strategies from the elective course and implemented them school-wide and districtwide to impact their entire communities and create articulated programs for college success.
AVID is recognized globally as a program that promotes student success in school while preparing them for a college/career path after high school. For more information, visit the AVID site.
