About Pre-K (age 4)
District 622 Pre-K will provide a safe, nurturing environment that supports children’s first school experience. We help children develop important social and emotional skills that will set them up for success in school. Licensed teachers offer engaging, hands-on learning experiences in key areas like:
- Reading and math readiness
- Science and social studies
- Art and sensory activities
- Music
- Dramatic play
- Affordable rates - $420/month - free to those who qualify- and reduced rates are available for 4-year-olds who live within District 622 attendance boundaries. To learn more about qualifying please, click here Please note: children who are age-eligible for kindergarten (5 years old on or before Sept 1, 2025) are not eligible to attend District 622 Pre-K.
- Classes are Monday through Friday morning or afternoon at all seven District 622 elementary schools.
- Your 4-year-old will be assigned to a school based on your address and the School District 622 attendance boundaries.
- School bus transportation is available on regular elementary school bus routes.
- The school year runs from September 9, 2025 through June 5, 2026.
- Before OR after care options are available at elementary school locations through Adventure Connection. Adventure Connection is not available during the elementary school day due to space constraints.

Application for Educational Benefits

Play is Learning
Play is the foundation of learning in our program. We include both free-choice playtime and structured play-based activities that teach specific skills. Children will explore, create, and engage in hands-on activities that stimulate their learning while encouraging creativity and exploration.

Families as Partners in Education
We truly value families as partners in your child’s learning journey. Here are a few ways you can support your child:
- Attend your child’s Welcome Meeting at the beginning of the year.
- Ensure your child attends school regularly.
- Meet with your child’s teacher twice a year for conferences.
- Stay updated by reading communications from the program and your child’s teacher. Reach out if your child needs additional support.
- Attend school events throughout the year.

Special Education Services
We offer special education services for children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Our Pre-K teachers, special education teachers, and specialists work closely together to support all students and ensure every child’s needs are met.
