Early Childhood Screening

Early Childhood Screening is for children ages 3-5 and is required by the State of Minnesota before entering public kindergarten.

A screening appointment is required to be scheduled before entering District 622 Preschool.

Early Childhood Screening is a free and simple check of how your child is developing and growing. It is also a good resource to learn about other opportunities in your community to support you and your family. During the screening, your child will complete age appropriate activities with a trained professional and consists of the following components:

  • Cognitive development
  • Large and small muscle development
  • Social and emotional development
  • Vision and hearing
  • Height and weight
  • Health history
  • Immunization review

Healthy Kids Minnesota

Our Early Childhood Screening Program is partnering with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for a statewide program that will measure chemicals in kids. This program was created to help improve the health of kids by identifying elevated exposures to
chemicals and working with families to reduce them.
Participation is voluntary. Children who are 3-6 years old, live in District 622, and are accompanied by a parent or guardian are eligible to participate.

  • During the screening appointment, you will complete a short survey with a staff member.
  • After the screening appointment you will help your child provide a urine sample to test for over 80 chemicals.
  • You will receive a $40 gift card for your time.
  • Your child’s individual results will be mailed to you.
  • MDH Staff will be available to answer questions by phone and email.

If you have any questions about this voluntary program before your appointment, please contact our Screening Office at 651-702-8468.
