Cancelation of Spring Events

Dear high school families:

I am writing to give you an update on our upcoming spring events. In these unprecedented times, we need to make adjustments to how we usually hold our end-of-year ceremonies and celebrations. We know that our students and families look forward to these milestones, and we want to make them as special as they can be for our students while following state and national guidelines related to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Regretfully, District 622 will be canceling in-person graduation ceremonies, prom, Relay for Life, and the STA2RS (Students and Teachers Achieving Academic Recognition) Banquet.

We are working hard to ensure a virtual graduation ceremony can be as special as the Class of 2020, and we will share more information soon.

In a way to honor our seniors, our high schools have ordered signs that highlight their graduation year. Please watch for an email next week from your principal about a distribution plan. If you’d like to see a picture of the signs, click this link.

The STA2RS Banquet, hosted by the 622 Education Foundation, honoring the top ten percent of graduating seniors, will not occur in the standard dinner/banquet format. However, the Foundation is working on ways to honor the students. Information will be sent to these students in the coming weeks.

We understand the stress and disappointment in having changes made to these important events and gatherings. Please know that we are making decisions based on our desire to protect the health and safety of our community from COVID-19. By no means does the cancelation of these events undermine the importance of our students.
