2018-19 Assessments Information

Dear Parents and Guardians:

In the coming weeks, your child will be participating in the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments. You can find a testing schedule on the next page.

On testing days, please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep, eats a good breakfast, and is ready to show what he/she knows.  Please try to avoid scheduling any appointments or days out of school on your child’s testing days. We appreciate your cooperation.

Additionally, on testing days, students are not allowed to have electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart watches, and tablet computers in the testing room. Students may NOT use or access cell phones or any other electronic devices at any time during testing, including during breaks or when testing is completed. If a student has a cell phone or electronic device out at any point during a test session, the student’s test has been compromised and needs to be invalidated, even if the student did not use the cell phone or electronic device. Even if the student has completed testing, cell phones or other electronic devices cannot be used in the testing room.

What are the MCAs? Why are we taking the MCAs?

From the Minnesota Department of Education website: The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) and alternate assessment Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS) are the state tests that help districts measure student progress toward Minnesota’s academic standards and also meet federal and state legislative requirements. Students take one test in each subject. Most students take the MCA, but students who receive special education services and meet eligibility requirements may take the alternate assessment MTAS instead. The list below shows tests by subject along with the grades they are given in parentheses behind each subject.

Reading: MCA or MTAS (grades 10)

Mathematics: MCA or MTAS (grades 11)

Science: MCA or MTAS (grade 10)

Please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions.  I can be reached at 651-702-8612.
