Distance learning update from Oakdale Elementary

Dear Elementary Families,

I am excited to share that our district has received a grant from 3M for $450,000 to support equitable access to technology for distance learning in our elementary schools.

Our staff has been working to gather information regarding home access to the Internet and devices. The results show that 24% of elementary families do not have access to reliable Internet, and 57% of elementary students do not have consistent access to a device. We will use the information from this survey to guide the distribution of district-owned devices to our elementary students.

While this generous grant does not cover the costs to provide a device to all elementary students, it goes a long way in closing the access gap for some of our elementary-age learners.

We do not have a date when devices will arrive from our vendor yet, but we will share more information as it becomes available.

I want to thank you for your patience, flexibility, and cooperation as we continue to navigate distance learning together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Troy Miller

Assistant Superintendent
